Double Travel Buggy: The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly

What to Look For in a Double Travel Buggy

A side-byside double with an incredibly compact footprint (for narrow doorways and on public transport). Add carrycots or seats (with adaptors) to increase the frame's weight capacity for children up to 50 pounds.

A great barebones budget double that has rear and front suspension to take care of uneven surfaces, a huge storage basket and a padded handlebar for parents of different heights.

Size

Double pushchairs tend to be more spacious than single ones, especially when they are side-byside buggies, such as the Kolcraft Geo 3 or UPPAbaby. This extra width allows them to accommodate larger children without straining their chassis. Other features that make them stand out: large pop-out canopy with SPF 50 protection, as well as peekaboo windows, swivel-lock front wheels to assist in navigating tight spaces such as shopping aisles and a cup holder for one parent and a clever fold mechanism that can be operated by one hand. The 10-inch wheels aren't built for rough terrain, but they are able to handle city streets and theme park rides well.

In terms of price tags, these types of lightweight buggies, which are side-by-side, are surprisingly affordable.

Weight

The heavier the double buggy the more easy it is to move and lift. The Joie Evalite Duo is a great option if you need to be aware of weight. It's the lightest of our Lab tests but still offers plenty of features, such as nice-sized pop-out canopies that come with SPF 50 and peekaboo windows and a quick-release fold that stows flat within seconds; four-wheel suspension to cope with rough terrain; and a swivel front wheel that makes navigating narrow aisles in supermarkets and shops easy. It's priced at just over $1000 is a very affordable stroller. It can also carry twins or a baby and toddler with the purchase of an additional'sidepack'.

Flexibility

A double buggy is a great option for parents with twins or even a toddler and baby. Narrow tandem buggies are great for fitting through tight spaces, while side-by-side models ensure that your children are properly cared for and allow you to keep your eyes on them as you go to the grocery store or the park. They also come with a wide selection of seating options that allow you to modify them as your children develop, and some come with the option of adding an extra ride-on board or car seat.

The Joie Evalite duo is a great illustration. It can be used to hold two seats, or even a car-seat. The adaptors allow you to convert one seat to a double seat in a matter of minutes. It also comes with a spacious pop-out UPF 50+ sunshade canopy with adjustable leg rests as well as peekaboo windows on both seats as well as a standing fold that's quick and easy to do with one hand; and a premium suspension that makes light work of rough terrain.

Tri-fold buggies such as the iCandy Peach are another versatile option. They are ideal for narrow aisles and doors. They are also able to accommodate twins or a child and a larger child with the addition of UPPAbaby's"PiggyBack" board (which is sold separately). The basket is large and comes with all the extras like raincovers and liner.

Tandem buggies are generally designed with your children sitting together. This can make them more stable and easier to push on uneven surfaces, but they can be a challenge to maneuver around and over kerbs. They usually have a wider footprint than a single-seater stroller and can be a bit long to get through doors.

Comfort

This is one of the most comfortable, lightweight doubles that we have tested. It features stadium-style seating on both seats, ensuring that your children can take in the view. It also has an enormous UPF 50+ canopy with the peek-a-boo window, and a padded toddler seat with an add-on RumbleSeat that has built-in adjustable foot and leg rests and an integrated cup holder for a single parent. The seats recline independently by pressing a lever underneath each seat. Testers love the fact that the straps can be fastened and unfastened with one hand.  double pram and pushchair 's also simple to fold, with a twist mechanism on the handle, making it as easy as could be and also stores with the backrest upright to make it easy to access.

With 30 different configurations (it'll accommodate twins or a toddler and a baby or three kids if you add the option of a "PiggyBack" board) it's a great option for families that want to be able to grow with their child. Its spacious shopping basket and soft suspension makes it ideal on roads and in cities too. It is also very reasonably priced. BabyGearLab recommends it to children between the ages of 6 and 6.
